Just because every celebrity is having, adopting or expecting babies these days doesn't mean that Reese Witherspoon has another one on the way.
The "Legally Blonde" star got legally medieval on a tabloid for publishing a story claiming that she is pregnant with her third child. Witherspoon filed a lawsuit Wednesday, June 21 against Star magazine's parent company American Media Inc., for invasion of privacy.
The June 26 cover of the magazine, which features both a picture of Witherspoon and Julia Roberts, announces in large print: "Reese & Julia -- Baby #3!"
According to court documents found on TMZ.com, "this fabricated tall tale was brazenly published as a prominent and conspicuous cover story for the purpose of garnering the maximum attention to the tabloid.
"Contrary to the fabricated Cover Story," the lawsuit continues, "the true facts are that [Reese] is not pregnant, does not have a 'baby bump' and has not otherwise gained weight such that she has had to resort to wearing 'Empire-waist dresses,' 'baggy clothing,' or an 'old-fashioned 1920's bathing suit.'"
While counsel for American Media claims that the story merely posed the question of Witherspoon being pregnant, the actress' camp insists that the tabloid blatantly lied in the article. One item in particular implies that she's been dishonest with people she works with: "She has been withholding or concealing this information from producers of upcoming films."
She is seeking unspecified general and punitive damages.
Witherspoon, 30, won an Oscar for her leading role as June Carter Cash in "Walk the Line." She recently finished shooting the indie comedy "Penelope," starring Christina Ricci.
