Paris Hilton has cut more than a few people out of her inner circle of fabulousness as she's clawed her way to the top (or, in her case, clawed her way to the dank basement just below the top). But it turns out it may not be so easy for her to drop ex-BFF Nicole Richie.
Despite Paris' public push to bring new pal Kimberly Stewart on board as her second banana on "The Simple Life," the New York Post reports the feuding former pals could in fact be back together for the Hawaii-set fourth season.
The paper says the rumored hiring of Rod's daughter is likely "wish-fulfillment on Hilton's part," adding that Fox is still deciding whether to bring back Richie.
The potential reteaming of the estranged pair, whose longtime friendship began to cool during Oscar season, could make for a scintillating, conflict-crammed season, filled (oh please, oh please) with plenty of sniping, backbiting and catfights.
Perhaps we might even learn what ultimately doomed their partnership, a cryptic event Hilton alluded to in a statement released last month.
"It's no big secret that Nicole and I are no longer friends," the PR-loving celebutante said. "I will not go into the details of what happened. All I will say is that Nicole knows what she did, and that's all I am ever going to say about it."
The most popular theories surrounding the split: Nicole is jealous of Paris' success; Paris is jealous of Nicole's slimmed-down, glammed-up style; or Nicole, who's engaged to Adam "DJ AM" Goldstein, has outgrown her partying pal.
A Hilton insider claims to People that trouble began when Richie, annoyed she wasn't asked to co-host "Saturday Night Live" with Paris in February, arranged a viewing party for the episode, only instead of showing "SNL," she screened her co-star's sex video.
Richie's reps dismiss the allegation, but the Hilton mole tells the mag, "Paris was very hurt. She loves Nicole but believes she is owed an apology."
And what of rumors that Paris is threatened by her once curvier sidekick's drastic (read: skin and bones) makeover? "I've been skinny all my life, but I guess something like that changes people," Hilton recently sniffed to the New York Times. "But it's deeper than that."
Richie's camp, meanwhile, tells People that the rehabbed starlet has simply matured and moved on.
"She just wants to be with Adam and get married," a spy explains to the mag. There's also been chatter that the couple could get their own Fox reality show, which would trail them as they plan their aisle walk.
"We are currently discussing internally the creative direction of the next 'The Simple Life,'" Fox said in a statement to the Post. "We are huge fans of both Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie and look forward to solidifying our plans for the next installment."
The season finale airs Thursday.
Meanwhile, with the details of their small screen future still being hammered out, Paris and Nicole are keeping busy with their various solo endeavors.
Hilton, who's been out stumping for "House of Wax," is currently in France promoting her namesake perfume.
"Fragrance is magical, it creates a mood," she said in statement that was most definitely not written by a publicist. "It is the last thing I put on before I step out to party -- it's a signature, a style statement, it's memorable."
Richie, meanwhile, had people talking as she happily posed with Paris' sister Nicky at Monday night's Cartier soiree in Beverly Hills, a tête-à-tête SkyNews says "really stuck the knife in" to Paris.
The Skinny on Renée's Wedding
"I am incredibly happy. I may well be the luckiest man alive. To be so in love with someone who is so perfect for me. It's just hard to imagine that I'm not going to wake up." So said a smitten Kenny Chesney in a statement on Tuesday, one day after he roped Renée Zellweger as his wife in a surprise Caribbean ceremony.
The left-field nuptials have many wondering just how long the clandestine couple courted before they vowed to stay together forever. The answer, it seems, depends on whom you ask.
USA Today reports the newlyweds began dating about a month ago, with Chesney's rep confirming that they first met at the Concert of Hope tsunami benefit on January 15.
But Carolina Herrera, Zellweger's favorite designer and the woman who created her body-hugging strapless wedding gown, insists they've been enamored with one another for a whole lot longer.
"They love each other and they have been going out for a long time," she tells Women's Wear Daily. "It's not only two weeks as they say. It's like six months, at least."
And yet, during an April 5 sit-down with Harper's Bazaar, Zellweger claimed she still hadn't found Mr. Right (the interview comes out later this month).
"I'm not seeing anybody, just having a great time running around, thought not in the my-mother-would-be-worried-about-me sense," said the Oscar winner, who was most recently linked to Irish singer-songwriter Damien Rice following her bust-up with White Stripes rocker Jack White.
The Southern sweethearts went public less than two weeks ago, when the actress, 36, locked lips with the country star, 37, after delivering a margarita onstage during his concert in Jacksonville, Florida.
While it's unclear when they decided to get hitched, the wedding, which took place on the island of St. John in the Virgin Islands (Kenny lives there), was apparently a last-minute affair.
"She doesn't even have an engagement ring," Chesney's mouthpiece tells USA Today. "It wasn't what was important to them."
Also not important to them: footwear. The blushing bride and cowboy-hatted groom both went barefoot during the 15-minute ceremony, which was witnessed by 45 non-famous friends and family.
"It was a very spare service," a wedding guest tells People.
Herrera, for one, has high hopes for the whirlwind romance. "I think it's very romantic the way they did it," she gushes to the Insider. "I'm very happy for them because it's going to be a great success, this marriage."
Does Mischa Want Out?
Is Mischa Barton ready to try life as a single girl? The New York Daily News says the "O.C." starlet, 19, may be attempting to extricate herself from her one-year-old relationship with oily scion Brandon Davis, 24.
"She wants to take a break," a snitch tells the paper. "She wants to focus on her career. Her parents and friends love him. He's a great-looking rich guy. But she thinks he's too much of a party boy."
The previously joined-at-the-hip pair hasn't been snapped together in more than a month, and Mischa raised eyebrows when she was a no-show at the high-profile Race to Erase MS charity event on April 22, which was backed by Brandon's billionaire mom, Nancy Davis.
But insiders are pooh-poohing these supposed signs of Barton's growing apathy, asserting the breakup rumors are so much hooey.
"Mischa couldn't make it to the benefit because she had a late shoot on 'The O.C.'," one source explains to the News. "And she had to fly off the next morning to Italy."
That's where the actress-turned-Keds spokeswoman is filming "The Decameron" with Hayden Christensen. Davis, who will soon graduate from USC, has reportedly made the trek overseas to see her.
Insists a friend, "They're still very much in love."
Teri's Busy Lips
Teri Hatcher's lips sure seem to be making up for lost time. A week after the "Desperate Housewives" star, 40, made headlines for allegedly attempting to give a tonsillectomy to tattooed fashion photographer Jim Macari, 30, she's apparently traded up -- way, way up.
A mole tells the New York Post that Teri, who has complained ad nauseum about her inability to find a man, was swapping spit with 7-foot former NBA star-turned-"Best Damn Sports Show Period!" host John Salley Monday at L.A. hotspot Chi.
According to the paper, the height-challenged twosome were shaking their groove things on the dance floor to Beyoncé's "Crazy in Love" when Salley, 41, "proceeded to score a slam dunk" with Hatcher.
"They were full-on making out," the eyewitness asserts. "They were kissing while they were dancing right in front of everyone."
The Post speculates the pair met earlier in the evening at a Cartier benefit in Beverly Hills, where the resurrected actress turned heads in a clingy scarlet Alberta Ferretti frock.
Teri, who is mom to 7-year-old Emerson (dad is ex-husband Jon Tenney), recently talked to In Style about her supposedly stagnant love life.
"It's slow," she told the magazine. "I feel like I'm too old to just have sex. I mean, I want to have sex, but with somebody who really loves and gets me."
In related "Desperate" news, Eva Longoria's already jam-packed social calendar could get even busier now that Maxim has put her at the top of its annual Hot 100 list.
The pocket-sized looker, 30, who landed at a lowly No. 91 last year, beat out nine other beauties for the No. 1 spot, coming in ahead of Evangeline Lilly, Jennifer Garner, Lindsay Lohan, Jessica Alba, Rachel Bilson, Angelina Jolie, Brittany Murphy, Jessica Simpson and Sara Foster.
"It's kind of exciting and shocking all at the same time," she tells USA Today, adding that she has her own babelicious pick.
"Angelina is the definition of sexy," says Longoria of Brad Pitt's purported amour. "Everything about her is sexy -- her empowerment, confidence, strength, beauty, character, her morals and what she stands for."
Eva, by the by, was the only Wisteria Lane resident to make Maxim's cut, which we're sure won't cause any tension on the easygoing set of the smash series.
Klum Seals the Deal
It's official. Heidi Klum is now Mrs. Seal. The happy couple, who are expecting their first child together this fall, exchanged vows Tuesday on a beach in Mexico.
According to People, the bride, 31, was resplendent in an ivory, empire-waist Vera Wang chantilly lace gown, while the groom, 42, (real name: Sealhenry Olumide Samuel), well, we don't know what the groom wore, but we're guessing he had on a really big smile.
The mag says the seaside ceremony took place before 40 guests at a locale not far from the Grammy winner's villa in ritzy Costa Careyes.
The nuptials come a little more than four months after Seal slipped a colossal canary diamond on Heidi's finger. The question-popping was pretty standard, reportedly occurring 14,000 feet up, atop a Canadian glacier inside a custom-built igloo within a natural snow cave. Not that he's romantic or anything.
The stunning squeezes, who just plunked down $4.3 million for a 4-bedroom, 4 1/2-bath Bel-Air estate, currently share parenting duties for 1-year-old Leni, Klum's daughter with Italian playboy Flavio Briatore, whom she split with in late 2003 (Leni arrived in May 2004).
The German supermodel began dating Seal shortly after the breakup, and he dove into the role of daddy when Leni was born, even dedicating his greatest hits album to "my daughter."
"My daughter and my lady are the only thing going on in my life," he told People last October. "I've dreamt my whole life of having what I have now. I feel complete."
This month, Heidi told the mag that she was "magnetically attracted to him. He was so big and tall and handsome ... I love him as a father. He holds her and sings to her. He does everything."
Gushed Seal, "She's the sexiest she could ever be when she's pregnant."
In related news, Briatore just can't get enough of leggy supermodels, even ones he's ditched twice before.
The London Mirror says the millionaire businessman is once again dating petulant catwalker Naomi Campbell, whom he broke up with in 2001 and 2004. He's reportedly tossing a party for her 35th birthday aboard his yacht in Cannes on Friday.
