| Bad trips: That wasn't in the flight plan |
"Air Force One" (1997) Never mind that we'd never seen a movie make such a convincing case for a seriously macho president of the United States (thank you, Mr. Harrison Ford, at the end of your heyday); director Wolfgang Petersen tested all our ideas about flight. What didn't go wrong aboard the hijacked presidential plane and what couldn't be done about it? Escape pods, zip lines, midair refueling, fisticuffs while half in and half out of the sky -- through it all Ford's President James Marshall, Vietnam vet, family man and action superstar, prevailed again and again. Even the most dastardly of Russian terrorists (Gary Oldman) was ultimately no match for POTUS. Is the movie realistic in any sense? Errr, no, especially not when held up against the more serious films on this list. Do the special effects look a little tired, especially when people are dangling out of the plane? Yes. But we were too busy having fun to care. Bing: 'Air Force One' | More on Harrison Ford For more movie news, follow MSN Movies on Facebook and Twitter. (Rex Features)
