Damon plays Steve Butler, the corporate advance man sent to persuade members
of a farming community to lease their land to the natural gas companies. The
movie doesn't exactly make you want to invite anyone to drill in your backyard,
but Krasinski says he'd rather people didn't refer to "Promised Land" as the
anti-fracking movie. "Natural gas is a phenomenal resource," he said after an
early screening for his friends and family in the Boston area. "But only if we
do it safely."
MSN asked Krasinski what movies he watched for inspiration while he was
working on the screenplay. Some of his answers surprised us, like "The Verdict," "Michael Clayton" and "a lot of Frank Capra movies."
You'll find another one of them on our list of classic Hollywood films about
natural resources, corporate greed and the human cost of using the earth's
bounty to fuel our economy.
