Thrill rides and high-speed chases that keep us on the edge of our seats

Part of the genius of the Jason Bourne series is not simply that its filmmakers have translated Robert Ludlow's international espionage novels into high action, high stakes movies that keep you on the edge of your seat. The franchise also bulked up and transformed the calm-looking, average-sized Matt Damon into a larger-than-life badass. As Bourne, the actor plays an amnesiac super solder trying to recall how he became the way he was and what his life was like prior to being involved in the covert Treadstone operation. The original trilogy starts with him in complete mental darkness and follows him through his dangerous discovery and recovery process.

Now the Bourne series experiences a rebirth with "The Bourne Legacy," in which Jeremy Renner plays Aaron Cross, another high-powered soldier born (pun intended) from the same military program that created his predecessor. The new installment promises to be another high-speed thrill ride, so in honor of its release, here are ten intense stunts from the four-movie series that show how it trumps the competition.
