As the year hits the halftime mark, which movies stand
out?
By James Rocchi Special to MSN Movies
As the first six months of 2012 recede in the rear view mirror of our
pop-culture travels, we at MSN Movies thought we'd take a look at some of the
best movies we've seen so far this year, and demonstrate that for all the
conventional wisdom saying that the Oscar race means that good movies get
released only after September, there have been plenty of great reasons to doubt
that adage. At the same time, to be fair, we also have to call out the worst
films of the year so far, because, frankly, we've already seen some doozies.
Based on an unscientific poll of many of MSN Movies' writers, from the ranks of
films that had a U.S. theatrical release between Jan. 1 and June 30, 2012
(and not, for example, Film Festival advance screenings), and in no
particular order, here are our picks for the best and worst movies of the first
half of 2012.
