Every generation has their boy band. The Backstreet Boys just released their seventh studio album, the Monkees just finished a U.S. tour and New Edition just reunited on the Soul Train Awards to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Solo stars who started in boy bands are doing even better: 'N Sync's Justin Timberlake released a hit album in March and he's got a second one coming in September; Menudo's Ricky Martin was a major draw on Broadway in last year's revival of "Evita"; Perennial heartthrob Donny Osmond has been headlining alongside his sister, Marie, for the past five years at the Flamingo in Las Vegas.

If you were ever a straight young woman or a gay young man, chances are you fawned over Jordan Knight, or imagined getting married on a white horse to Nick Lachey. Maybe you even sent embarrassing fan mail to Micky Dolenz. I bet he really appreciated that lock of your hair.

Why have boy bands proven so consistently popular over the decades? It's simple: A cute guy is way cuter if he can sing. And if he's singing about how much he loves you and wants to be with you forever, and you're 13 and don't know any better? That combination is a license to print money.

Five lads from the U.K. are the latest group to cash in on the trend. They're called One Direction: Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, and Harry Styles. They're adorable, they have adorable accents and they sing about adorable things like how a girl's imperfections are what make her truly beautiful. It's no wonder they have millions of fans falling at their knees.

Which One Direction member is the cutest? Are you excited to see "This Is Us?" Let us know on our MSN Movies Facebook page.
