GREASE was the best!

Loved Olivia Newton John, and John Travolta.  They are, and were so talented.

It is great to have FUN being in the Audience or watching a Musical that lives on Forever.

A Standard Classic.

Let's Put On a Show!
Great movie musicals about young people singing and dancing

By Frank Paiva
Special to MSN Movies

Are you among the millions of Americans still secretly watching "Glee"? Are you planning Christmas around the "Les Miserables" movie? Do you have Broadway dreams that never go beyond the shower?

If your answer to any of these questions is yes, there's a good chance you're a musicals geek. In which case you should really avoid tap-dancing in the shower. It's slippery in there and you could fall.

Think musicals are strictly for gays and the elderly? Think again. Liking musicals is cooler than ever. Punk band Green Day backed a show based on their "American Idiot" album. The stage version of beloved indie flick "Once" just swept the Tony Awards. Broadway's biggest hit in a decade, "The Book of Mormon," is the brainchild of the guys behind "South Park." The drama club and the popular crowd have definitely merged, even if Hollywood is lagging behind.

Bing: More about 'Pitch Perfect'

Movie studios used to release dozens of musicals every year. Now the number of releases has slowed to two or three per year. This week marks the release of "Pitch Perfect," a comedy about competitive college a cappella groups. Gene Kelly or Fred Astaire it's not, but the trailer is a lot of fun.

The film features "Up in the Air" Oscar nominee Anna Kendrick alongside rising Australian comedian Rebel Wilson and "Hairspray" star Brittany Snow. Jason Moore directs the movie. He helmed the Broadway productions of "Avenue Q" and "Shrek," so the man knows a thing or two about putting on a show.

To celebrate the film's release, here are 10 more movies about young people singing and dancing despite enormous odds of professional success. If you feel like trying to copy any of their moves at home, just remember to steer clear of the bathtub.
