animals miraculously outpacing extinction. July's "Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs" finds Manny the mammoth, Sid
the sloth, Diego the saber tooth tiger, and all the rest of your favorite
characters face to face with a secret community of the ancient reptiles, who
don't take too kindly to strangers.
Dinosaurs are typically box office gold. Despite dying out over 65 million
years ago, dinosaurs have fascinated audiences since the creation of film. As
special effects technology has evolved, they've become increasingly realistic.
While Ray Harryhausen's stop motion T. rex may be no match for the CGI T. rex
that tears up Jurassic Park by our modern standards, both were equally fearsome
at their time of release. The forthcoming "Ice Age" T. rex will hit screens in
3-D, representing 2009's biggest film technology trend.
