Marital Murmurs: Bundchen Pooh-Poohs Brady Proposal Talk

Posted Jan. 22, 2009

Are the media a few steps ahead of Tom Brady? Despite reports to the contrary, Gisele Bundchen insists her quarterback beau has yet to slip a diamond ring on her finger, although she says they will eventually tie the knot.

"I will realize the dream of marriage, to have children and a family, of course. I'm sorry [to] disappoint you, there is no date set yet," the supermodel informs the Brazilian magazine Caras (via the Boston Herald, which translated the chat from her native Portuguese). "I'm in love, and you will see my wedding on the right day."

Gisele pleads ignorance over what prompted a recent pair of question-popping reports, which led to a flood of unwarranted congratulations.

"I don't know how people are so creative," marvels the Brazilian looker, 28. "First, they said he proposed to me in a plane. Imagine, it was Dec. 24, Christmas [Eve], we were flying to Boston, then there was some champagne and we celebrated the date. ... Someone deduced I was getting engaged! I received more than 100 e-mails from friends commenting about the proposal."

As for the latest nuptial nattering, which claims the benched New England Patriots star, 31, got down on injured knee last week in Los Angeles and presented her with a diamond solitaire, Bundchen scoffs, "I wasn't even there. How can that be true?"

The genetically superior squeezes were also said to be debating whether to have a blowout ceremony in the spring or a smaller ceremony in Costa Rica, where Bundchen has a house.

But she says no decisions have been made about the seemingly inevitable vow-swap, except that it will be "something small, a simple ceremony. I don't like parties; I prefer something more intimate, just for the closest people."

In other speculative "I do" news, stop us if you've heard this one a couple dozen times before: OK! is rehashing the well-worn rumor that Johnny Depp, 45, and Vanessa Paradis, 36, are planning to legalize their decade-plus relationship, assuming they can find the perfect sparkly symbol of their love.

"Johnny got Vanessa a drop-dead gorgeous engagement band, but she returned it to the jeweler," a mole alleges to the magazine. "She wants her ring to be absolutely perfect."

The actor supposedly checked out a variety of "classic solitaire diamond rings in platinum settings" at a Los Angeles jeweler in early December before ponying up for a "very large purchase."

This follows similar rumblings of late that claim the cooler-than-thou twosome, who are parents to Lily, 10, and Jack, 7, want to get hitched this spring at their French estate.

"Each summer people say we're supposed to be getting married, but we don't talk about it that much," Paradis told November's Elle U.K. "He's got me, and he knows he's got me." Still, she admitted, "I love the romance of 'let's get married,' but then, when you have it so perfect ... I mean, I'm more married than anybody can be -- we have two kids. Maybe one day, but it's something I can really do without."
