Want to look like Scarlett Johansson? It ain't gonna happen, but at least you'll soon be able to re-create the color palette on her pretty visage. The top-heavy actress has signed on to be the face of Dolce & Gabbana's debut makeup line, which will hit stores this spring, reports WWD. In a creative stretch, the sultry ad campaign takes its inspiration from Marilyn Monroe and features a reclining but pensive Johansson cinched into a corset and set off by Elmo-red lips. "Scarlett is sure of herself," says Stefano Gabbana. "She's a beautiful girl, but she's really easygoing. She is very Dolce & Gabbana." For those keeping track, Scarlett is also very Reebok, Calvin Klein, L'Oreal and Louis Vuitton, all of whom she's shilled for in the past. As for their cosmetics collection, which will feature plenty of bold blues, purples and golds, Gabbana says they view it "as another thing for women, like a dress. We worked on the makeup line like we work on a clothing collection: You can change makeup like you can change your clothes, depending on your mood." Let's hope your mood is a spendthrift one. Prices on the glamour-heavy face paint, which will come packaged in substantial gold cases and black velvet pouches, range from $20 for nail polish to $30 for a rose-scented lipstick to $59 for powder foundation. There's also a $28 mascara infused with what seems like a counterintuitive and tears-promoting "peppery olfactory note."
He won't remember a thing, but Christina Aguilera's son Max celebrated his first birthday with many a magical creature. People reports the popster and her husband, Jordan Bratman, marked their tot's Jan. 12 milestone by throwing a "Where the Wild Things Are"-themed party at their Beverly Hills home on Saturday afternoon (the main character in the classic Sendak tale is also named Max). Among the 40 or so guests were Nicole Richie, Joel Madden and their daughter Harlow, who turned 1 on Jan. 11. The mag says the backyard bash offered kiddie culinary delights such as mini peanut butter-and-jelly sandwiches, along with people dressed in costume as characters from the book (next time you complain about your job, just remember, you could be trapped in a stifling suit at a kid's birthday party).
What better way to build excitement for Britney Spears' upcoming tour than by showing her in her element, specifically, wearing a cutoff, boob-grazing shirt while spinning around a pole? A photo posted Friday on her Web site shows that the Britster is no longer a few cans short of a six pack, with her fabulously defined abs a testament to the many hours she's reluctantly put in at the gym. "I have had to work hard at getting [my body] back to where it used to be," she told the January issue of Glamour. "It isn't fun [for me], so to do it every day would be horrible." Spears, who has reportedly dropped an estimated 20 pounds in recent months, will give her hard body a public workout when she kicks off her "Circus" tour in New Orleans on March 3.
So far, 2009 has kind of sucked for Katy Perry. Not only did she break up with her Gym Class Heroes boyfriend, Travis McCoy, but she was also subjected to a mortifying mix-up at France's NRJ Music Awards on Saturday. The London Telegraph reports the ubiquitous pop warbler was presented with the International Song of the Year prize for "I Kissed a Girl" only to have it rescinded at the end of the show when it was revealed there was an error in the vote tallying. The real winner was Rihanna for "Disturbia," which was tellingly playing when Perry climbed onstage to accept the statue. At least she didn't go home empty-handed: She nabbed the Best International Album award for "One of the Boys," which she got to keep.
In today's installment of Paris Hilton's words of wisdom, she reflects on how to ferret out true friends from mean girls. "I have this great test to see if a girl's a real friend," the BFF-hiring starlet shares with Britain's Fabulous magazine. "When we're shopping, I'll pick out an outfit that I know looks hot and one that is awful. If my friend says the bad one looks good, I know she's not a good friend." (Yeah, because only a real jerk would try to spare your feelings.) Anyhoo, Paris says her "dream best friend" is Angelina Jolie, because "she's strong but gorgeous and uses her fame for good to make a big difference in the world. That's a great quality. I'd have a lot in common with her." Or not, because last time we checked, Angie wasn't following Paris' less than altruistic example by driving her brood around in Bentleys that are color-coordinated to her outfits.
