Did Jennifer Aniston and John Mayer give each other the gift of cornball this Christmas? That's the word from Star, which claims the Brad Pitt-anointed "sweetheart" of an actress penned the crooner a poem to mark the birth of the baby Jesus, which he then turned into a song and recorded, surprising her with it during their New Year's getaway to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. The tab even purports to have gotten its hot little hands on the romantic ode, which supposedly goes like this (be sure to brace yourself with a big grain of salt): "Lucky in love, lucky in love/Didn't forget me when I asked you to leave me/Didn't forget me/Now you're alongside me/You've brought luck to love/I've been hit by a truck in love." Two things: We suddenly appreciate the comparative musical genius of "Your Body Is a Wonderland," and we wonder why a truck in love would want to hit someone. "He changed it a little bit to make it more lyrical," a source explains to the tab. "But it's all John Mayer style, so it sounds good." Another insider says Aniston was moved to tears by the ditty: "She said, 'It was only a little something I wrote down for you, and you made it beautiful.' And then she joked, 'Do I get the publishing rights?'" Meanwhile, Us Weekly has a different tale of music-themed holiday schmoopiness in its "How Jen Stays Thin!" cover story. According to the mag, Mayer McCheese was so inspired by something Aniston told him that he surprised her by using it in a new song he's writing. That profound bit of self-help something: "Love is when compromise becomes your first choice." Gushes a source, "She feels really honored."

Meanwhile, the actress whose impressive figure was rumored to be the inspiration behind Mayer's "Wonderland" is singing the post-breakup blues. People reports Jennifer Love Hewitt, 29, is "having a tough time" following her holiday split from fiancé Ross McCall, 32. "She is usually very bubbly, but she is more quiet and seems sad," a source on the set of her CBS show "Ghost Whisperer" tattles to the mag. "She usually hangs out with the crew between takes, but [Tuesday] she is only hanging out with her bodyguard." Still, Hewitt isn't going to let a broken heart get in the way of her chitchatting with the dead for the enjoyment of millions of viewers. "She is always so professional," adds the snitch. "She would never even think to miss a day of work because of personal problems." Meanwhile, Star alleges the couple called off their yearlong engagement over prenup-related problems (J.Love's family supposedly pushed for her to get one, much to McCall's apparent chagrin) and her well-publicized whittled-down waistline. "When she went on the diet she became a completely different woman," a spy snipes to the tab, "one he was no longer in love with."

Anne Hathaway thinks deep thoughts at the 2009 Palm Springs International Film Festival. (©AP)

Want to get Anne Hathaway all hot and bothered? Talk philosophy with her. It seems the actress had the crowd at the Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards fete surreptitiously Googling the term "process metaphysics" as she somehow got onto the subject of the nature of reality while accepting an achievement award for "Rachel Getting Married." Someone who was probably impressed by the doe-eyed actress's display of braininess was her rumored beau, actor Adam Shulman, who received a quick kiss from her before she climbed onstage to give her dissertation, reports E! News. Later, "They were together at the afterparty at the Parker Palm Springs," a spy informs People. "They were sitting next to each other and they were holding hands in her lap, trying to stay warm." Hathaway was first linked to Shulman in November, about five months after she split from con-man boyfriend Raffaello Follieri, who is currently serving four-and-half-years in prison, roughly the same length of their romance. Not surprisingly, the starlet remains philosophical about love. "I was talking with someone the other day about the whole idea of kissing frogs," she tells USA Today. "You're told you've got to kiss a lot of frogs before you find a prince. But what they don't tell you is that you're going to kiss a lot of princes as well, but they're not going to be your prince. You find someone great, but that doesn't mean they're great for you." Anne then sensibly adds, "By the way, I am not the person to talk to about relationship advice."

Barbara Walters poses with Patrick Swayze and his wife, Lisa Niemi, at their California ranch. (©Retna Ltd.)

Patrick Swayze hasn't let his battle with pancreatic cancer keep him from expressing his devotion to Lisa Niemi, his wife of 33 years. In his candid sit-down with Barbara Walters, the actor reveals they made an impromptu decision to renew their wedding vows a few months back. "We did it very Prince Charming and Snow White," he recalls. "I rode in on a snorting steed, [a] white stallion." Says Niemi, "It was like a fairy tale. One of the happiest days ever." Swayze adds that his illness has only made him appreciate his spouse that much more. "I have no greater respect for any other human being on this Earth like I have for her," he proclaims. "Part of me says I couldn't have made it through without her, but, of course, the other part of me says I could have, but not nearly as elegantly as I have."

Amy Winehouse's extended Caribbean vacation has moved her to song. The London Daily Mail says the ever-so-slightly healthier-looking singer crooned a few numbers at a hotel piano bar in St. Lucia on Wednesday, ostensibly in a bid to impress Joshua Bowman, the baby-faced wannabe actor whom she's been photographed cuddling up with on her tropical sojourn. "As soon as she finished playing, she rushed over to Josh and was hugging and kissing him," a spy tells the paper. "Her voice was amazing. Everyone in the bar was amazed to hear her. She sang a few songs and looked to be really enjoying herself. Josh was obviously impressed. They were all over each other once she had finished singing, although they quickly moved outside to the terrace." Bowman, however, insists he's just pals with Winehouse, whose husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, remains in the pokey. "She's just a cool girl, very nice, and we're just very friendly," the fame-seeking Brit told the Mail earlier this week. "She's a good laugh -- she is such a lovely girl and on great form."
