Movies --Slumdog Bond? That's the buzz regarding recent Oscar-winning "Slumdog Millionaire" director Danny Boyle in regard to a Telegraph UK story discussing such talks: "Barbara Broccoli, the head of the 007 franchise at EON Productions, is one of a series of major players said to have approached Boyle, 52, in recent days. The revelation, if true, shows how far the Manchester director's stock has risen since his Mumbai-based film swept the board at the Oscars ... While Boyle prides himself on taking on more left-field projects, with previous films including 'Shallow Grave,' 'Trainspotting' and '28 Days Later,' he is understood to have been impressed by the grittier direction the Bond blockbusters have taken since Daniel Craig got involved." Since he turned down the chance to direct "Alien: Resurrection" back in the '90s, we shall see if Boyle would like to jump into a franchise other than his own. --I know some might flinch at this possibility, but I find it kind of perfect. According to Entertainment Weekly, Drew Barrymore is in the running to direct the third "Twilight" movie, "Eclipse." Since she just directed her first feature, "Whip It!," with Ellen Page, and has produced many films, including "Donnie Darko," I have faith in Ms. Barrymore. She certainly knows what makes teenage girls tick. --I revere Richard Pryor, so this potential project makes me pause. According to Entertainment Weekly, director Bill Condon is shopping around a script based on the life of the genius Pryor (entitled "Richard Pryor: Is It Something I Said?") with Eddie Murphy attached. I don't know about this, Jo-Jo Dancer ... --Oh ... this could be great. Or awful. Or great and awful. Whatever it is, I want to see this. According to Variety, Jim Carrey and Jake Gyllenhaal are attached to a contemporized version of the classic musical "Damn Yankees." Carrey as the Devil sounds delicious and, after his demented version of "Somebody to Love" in the criminally underrated "The Cable Guy," I want to see him sing again. |
