Biography:Born Lucien Ginzburg in Paris to a family of Russian Jewish immigrants, controversial French singer-songwriter Serge Gainsbourg admired music since childhood, especially classics and jazz. After first studying art, he became a pianist in a bar and later began to perform his own songs in a cabaret. He was rather shy at the time and tried to hide it by provoking the audience with his extravagant attire and behavior. "Sometimes they accepted me, sometimes they didn't, but they didn't love me," he once remembered. So he found acceptance by first giving his songs to the popular female singers "Juliette Greco" and "Michelle Arnaud". Audiences and critics appreciated his songs when performed by others.
