In 1949, Conrad embarked upon an extended working vacation to Alaska, which he parlayed into a short starring career. In 1950, he produced, wrote, and appeared in "The Flying Saucer", an Alaska-based piece of speculative fiction. In hopes of drumming up business, Conrad sent out a publicity release which intimated that his film contained actual footage of a flying saucer (it didn't). "Mikel Conrad" dropped out of sight shortly after appearing in another sci-fi cheapie, "Untamed Women". "Mikel Conrad" should not be confused with "Michael Conrad" of "Hill Street Blues" fame. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
