He has spent much of his career working closely with director "Oliver Stone", beginning with "Wall Street" (1987), for which Hutshing served as an associate editor. In those early years, he frequently co-edited with "David Brenner" on projects such as "Eric Bogosian"'s "Talk Radio" (1988) and "The Doors" (1991). In 1991, Hutshing and Brenner shared an Oscar for editing Stone's "Born on the Fourth of July". He and "Pietro Scalia" subsequently shared an Oscar for Stone's "JFK" (1991).
Hutshing holds a degree in fine arts from the University of Oregon. He was still in school when he began editing student films that had been sponsored by the American Film Institute.
