From her earliest work as wardrobe assistant on such features as 1981's "Quest for Fire" and "Dance With a Stranger" (1985), Yates soon began to serve as costume supervisor ("The Commitments"), which soon lead to work as costume designer on such antiquity themed films as Plunkett and Macleane (1999) and "Gladiator" (2000), for which she won the Best Costume Design Oscar at the 2000 Academy Awards. In 2001, Yates designed the wardrobe of everyone's favorite intellectual cannibal, Hannibal Lecter, in director "Ridley Scott"'s "Hannibal". ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide
