Biography:Australian stage and film actress "Dorothy Alison" arrived in London in 1949, working as a secretary while scouting out acting jobs. Alison's best-remembered film assignments include Miss Stockton, the sympathetic but no-nonsense teacher of deaf child Mandy Miller, in "Crash of Silence" (1952) and the courageous Nurse Brace in the wartime drama Reach for the Sky (1957). She gained a worldwide following in the early '80s for her work in the TV series "A Town Like Alice". "Dorothy Alison"'s final film appearance was in, appropriately enough, 1989's "Australia". ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
