The legendary Sammo Hung was trained in acrobatics, martial arts and dance as a child alongside Jackie Chan at the China Drama Academy. He had been in 138 Hong Kong action films and was an international star when he starred as Sammo Law in "Martial Law." The show was ... more about a cop from Shanghai whose martial arts skills came in handy when he went to work for the LAPD. He was an unlikely leading man due to his portly figure (although he was quite agile and swift in fight scenes) and lack of English skills. Despite the odds, "Martial Law" was very well-received from audiences and became a hit. He was the only East Asian starring in a prime-time network series.
