The two-time Oscar-nominated Irish actor almost didn't accept the role of
wizened Hogwarts head Albus Dumbledore in the film versions of the "Harry
Potter" books. He was afraid of not appearing in all of the ... moreadaptations because
of his declining health. Sadly, his prediction became reality. Harris died three
weeks before the release of the second movie in the series, but not before
delivering one of its key lines: "It is our choices, Harry, that show what we
truly are, far more than our abilities." Irish compatriot Michael Gambon, who will finish the series in the role,
replaced Harris to great acclaim. (Ellis O'Brian/All Action Pictures
