WORST! Mike Myers: Yes, Mike
Myers released a movie this year. And no, he didn't holler "Yeah, baby!" or
"Behave" or "As if!" at some hot babe du jour. (We miss Wayne ... Austin Powers,
not so much.) The once funny and lovable Myers has become increasingly
insufferable, and
... more we're not sure why, other than ... laziness? "The Love Guru," a movie where he labored more riffs on pop
culture, more smarmy double entendres and more lame, repeated one-liners that
are never, ever funny (seriously, his guru greeting of "Mariska Hargitay" made me want to punch something -- or at
least have the talented and tough Mrs. Hargitay punch him), reveals how low he's
sinking. I realize he might be attempting something close to the comedy of one
of his idols (Peter Sellers) with this borderline-offensive Indian shtick, but
Myers needs to rewatch Sellers' "The Party" again. Like, over and over again.
There's such a thing called restraint; Sellers understood when to use it, and
Myers needs a crash course. (Paramount Pictures)Close
