Final Screen Bows
Peter Sellers, "Trail of the Pink Panther"
(1982)
Years before the CGI revolution, filmmakers used to rely on the skills of
their editors to save a performance or sometimes salvage an entire production.
In the case of "Trail of the Pink Panther," the late, great Peter Sellers'
... more
entire role in the film was created out of archival footage. Sellers died before
production began, so producer/director Blake Edwards stitched his role together
out of deleted scenes from the previous "Revenge of the Pink Panther" and flashbacks from earlier
installments. Did it work? Not really: The movie was panned, bombed at the box
office, and ended up the subject of a successful lawsuit brought by Sellers'
wife. (Camera Press Digital/Retna Ltd.)
