JUNE ALLYSON

To moviegoers in the 1940s and '50s, June Allyson (born Ella Geisman) was
synonymous with the "good girl," her sunny blonde looks and husky, friendly
voice unvaryingly wholesome. The Bronx native onscreen hailed from Anytown, and
Allyson was game for singing, dancing and light comedy as a fixture in MGM's
studio repertory in that era. Her straight dramatic roles tilted toward the
ingenuous in such big-budget fare as "The Three Musketeers," "Little Women" and "The Glenn Miller Story." Allyson, who married
crooner-turned-actor Dick Powell from 1945 until his death in 1963, shifted
from movies to television in the late '50s as her big screen roles diminished.
The actress would marry twice more, with her marriage to dentist-turned-actor
David Ashrow lasting from 1976 until her death.
