Aykroyd is no star, but he's one of the best co-stars in the business. Even
during his days on "SNL," it was Chevy Chase or John Belushi or Bill Murray who got the attention and the press, while
Aykroyd just went about the business of comedy. Unlike his compatriots,
... more Aykroyd
never brought his own personality to the screen, instead losing himself in
characters as diverse as Julia Child, Irwin Mainway (marketer of the "Bag o'
Glass" children's toy), Jimmy Carter and Beldar Conehead -- a great quality in
sketches, a sketchy quality in films. Once in Hollywood, he thrived when he was
able to share the screen with more charismatic "SNL" alumni co-stars in films
like "The Blues Brothers" (with Belushi), "Trading Places" (with
Eddie Murphy), and "Ghostbusters" (with Murray). But Aykroyd flops hard when
forced to carry a movie. For an example, check out "Nothing But Trouble." Actually, don't check out that movie.
