This series, an American version of the BBC series of the same name, debuted
in a prime spot on the ABC schedule, directly after "Grey's Anatomy." But even McDreamy couldn't keep it alive. The
storyline, about a cop who is hit by a car and wakes up in the 1970s ... moreis about as
bizarre as one can get. The daring pairing here was star Jason O'Mara's time-traveling cop/victim and Harvey Keitel's watered down "Bad Lieutenant" Gene Hunt, described in press releases as an
"overweight, over-the-hill, nicotine-stained, borderline alcoholic homophobe."
Over on the BBC, the character was a hit, but stateside he was merely Sipowicz
redux. The network exec who gave the show the greenlight apparently thought
placing the show in the '70s was enough of a switch-up. They obviously never
watched "All in the Family."
