The latest addition to this
rogue-ette gallery is Keala Kennelly, who plays Kai on the mystical HBO series
"John From Cincinnati." Kennelly
is a champion surfer who is adept at playing herself, as she has in the films
"Blue Crush
... more" and "Rip Girls." And in "John" she forges yet another
variation on the template. In this unduly complicated David Milch show, Kai
works in the surf shop run by surfing matriarch Cissy Yost (Rebecca de Mornay) where Kai monitors the activities
of other Yosts, such as Cissy's son Butchie (Brian Van Holt), a washed-up, junk-addicted surfer
whom she sleeps with, and Butchie's son Shaun (Greyson Fletcher), a prodigy.
Though free-spirited, Kai can't help but care about these Yosts, because like
all network hard women, ultimately she only bows her head to those of equal
