After getting his start as a singer in Planet Hemp, hip-hop artist and Rio native Marcelo D2 emerged as a solo performer with 1998's "Eu Tiro É Onda. For his second record, he enlisted Beastie Boys producer Mario Caldato. The end result, 2003's ... moreÀ Procura da Batida Perfeita, successfully mixed samba and rap, and included collaboration with Black Eyed Peas' Will.i.am. 2006 saw the release of Meu Samba É Assim, which featured guest-vocals from Jurassic 5's Chali 2na. Later that year, Marcelo appeared on Sergio Mendes' Timeless.
