Best Picture winners and nominees that paused for passion
By James Rocchi Special to MSN Movies
Looking at the list of Oscar winners and nominees throughout the history of
the Academy Awards, it's a lot easier to find making war than making love — and
a lot harder to find sex scenes that actually contribute to the film's plot,
points and prestige. We scoured the list of Best Picture winners and nominees to
take the pulse of Hollywood's willingness to show, and talk, about sex — and
also examine how attitudes and art have changed since the Academy Awards began
in 1929. It's a list that jumps from sinking ships to the English Renaissance,
infidelity to gender-bending, and one that incorporates some truly impressive
moments in filmmaking, as well as a few moments of well-captured sexual anxiety.
With that said, get ready for a trip through sex in the cinema through
Oscar-colored lenses ... and, bluntly, prepare yourself for some bracing acting
and some bracing, uh, action.
