My wife said humans are funny people ga-gaing over this kind of stuff. I told her it started in ancient Athens with the annual play competion and the Greeks liked it so much, they also created the Olympics. I think we like to share in others' good fortune. To the artists involved it's work-related recognition and is IS important to them.

All these movies have recently come out. It is ashame  movies that there were showed in the middle of the year weren't nominated.

i thought the young actress in Book Thief deserved an Oscar nomination.

So did Geoffrey Rush.

Nothing ground breaking in this list.

Still surprised that "Book Thief" didn't impress the awards people to earn a few major nominations. Loved the movie AND the acting.

Why are people so jealous of other's success? What is up with all the hate in the comments section? Every year there is an awards show to recognize talent in the industry. I think all industries should take more time to honor the hard work that people do professionally instead of taking it for granted. There really are some that are a cut above the rest.

If you don't like the actors or actresses then don't watch the entertainment they provide. Oh wait, I bet most of you do watch movies or TV and listen to music and love the art that these people give you to consume. Then shut up.
